Why does the checkout page show exclamation marks when customers add card details?

Problem statement

Customers see exclamation mark (!) symbols on the checkout page when they try to enter their card details.

Solution

The exclamation marks appear when the Google Maps API key used for address autocomplete is expired, invalid, or missing. Use one of the following fixes.

Quick fix: Turn off address autocomplete

To stop the error right away, disable address autocomplete:

  1. Go to Settings > Configure Chargebee > Checkout & Self-Serve Portal > Advanced Settings.
  2. Turn off Autocomplete addresses.

Permanent fix: Update the Google Maps API key

To resolve the issue permanently, update the Google Maps API key in Chargebee. For step-by-step instructions, see Address autocomplete with custom domain.

Information

This error isn't caused by enabling a custom domain. Don't disable your custom domain to troubleshoot, doing so breaks your existing integration.
