How do I resolve the error 'Maximum Number of Result Rows..' when filtering and drilling down reports in RevRec?

Problem statement

This article explains how to resolve the “Maximum Number of Result Rows..” error that appears when filtering or applying a drill-down in the Unearned Revenue Rollforward report in Chargebee RevRec. This error occurs when the retrieved data exceeds the system’s display or processing limit.

  • Encountering errors when applying a drill-down on Invoice Number or other attributes in the Unearned Revenue Rollforward report.

  • Filtering reports by accounting period to avoid data retrieval limits.

Solution

The “Maximum Number of Result Rows” error occurs when the selected data range is too large, typically due to an increase in sales orders or data volume. Filtering by a specific accounting period reduces the data size and allows the report to load successfully.

Steps to resolve the error

Follow the steps below to resolve the error:

  1. Go to Reports > Revenue Recognition > Unearned Revenue Rollforward.
  2. Right-click the relevant Accounting Period.
  3. Select Filter on Selections to limit the report data to that specific period. For example, in the screenshot below, 2025-10 is selected.
  1. After applying the accounting period filter, click the Invoice Number column header to apply a drill-down. This will ensure that the retrieved data remains within the allowed limit, enabling the report to generate successfully.

Additional information

  • Regularly review and adjust your accounting periods to align with reporting requirements and manage data volume.
  • If the issue persists, further reduce the data by applying additional filters or contact Chargebee Support for assistance.
  • After applying filters and drill-downs, always verify the data accuracy to ensure your report results are complete and correct.
