Every unit of a billing credit equals one usage event on our billing platform. A usage event is any specific action or consumption that represents customer value that you want to track or monetize. A few examples:

• Model inference calls
• API calls
• Tokens processed
• Vector database queries
• AI agent interactions

Submitting these events allows you to track what you bill for today and collect data on potential future monetization opportunities.

The count is based on the actual number of individual usage records, regardless of how they're sent (individually or in batches through our batch API). Administrative actions like subscription changes or account updates don't count unless they are monetized.

To estimate your needs: (billable actions per customer per month) × (customer base) = (approximate monthly usage event volume).

You can ingest usage events using one of these options:

• APIs - single usage event/batch of events
• Upload files using S3 connector
• Upload files via UI

Our schemaless system allows you to ingest any properties that you want to send to Chargebee without predefining the usage event schema. This flexibility allows you to track new value metrics, iterate on pricing quickly, and make informed decisions about your pricing strategy with confidence.
