Can I sync addons in Chargebee to Intercom?

Problem Statement

You want to know whether add-on details from Chargebee can be synced to Intercom and what the scope and limitations of the Chargebee–Intercom integration are.

Related Scenarios

  • Understanding what data is synced between Chargebee and Intercom
  • Checking whether invoice details can be synced from Chargebee to Intercom
  • Identifying actions you can trigger from Intercom using Chargebee data

Solution

The Chargebee–Intercom integration syncs customer, subscription, and invoice details to Intercom. This enables customer engagement through self-serve conversations in Intercom’s Inbox.

However, add-on details are not supported as part of the native integration. Product catalog data, including add-ons, cannot be retrieved or synced to Intercom.

You can generate action links from Chargebee and share them with customers through Intercom. Supported actions include:

  • Creating a new subscription
  • Requesting a payment method
  • Updating a payment method
  • Collecting a payment

Add-ons are intentionally excluded because a subscription can contain multiple add-ons, and Intercom does not support object creation. Syncing add-on data could lead to data inconsistency, so this functionality is restricted.

Additional information

If you need to sync add-on details to Intercom, you can use a third-party integration such as Zapier.

Using Zapier, you can:

  • Create custom fields in Intercom to store add-on details
  • Sync the add-on name and add-on value from Chargebee for subscription created and subscription updated events

This approach allows you to reference add-on information in Intercom while keeping Chargebee as the source of truth.
