Catalog Setup Assistant

Disclaimer

Catalog Setup Assistant uses third-party Artificial Intelligence (AI) service providers. While we aim to provide accurate and helpful information, AI-generated responses may include errors and should be independently verified.

The inputs you provide are not used to train public AI language models. To improve quality and reliability, Chargebee may review selected interactions for debugging and quality assurance purposes.

If you do not want Catalog Setup Assistant enabled for your organization, contact Chargebee Support or your Account Manager.

Open Catalog Setup Assistant from the Chargebee navigation bar on your test or sandbox site, then draft a catalog from a pricing page, document, or description.

Try Catalog Setup Assistant

Overview

Catalog Setup Assistant is an AI agent that builds your Chargebee product catalog for you. You give it your pricing details (a pricing page URL, one or more public pricing pages, a document, or a plain-English description) and it reads the pricing, decides how it should be modeled in Chargebee, and produces a complete, editable draft catalog covering product families, plans, addons, charges, prices, currencies, features, and entitlements.

Nothing is created on your site while you work. The draft lives in a workspace next to the chat, where you can review every section, edit values inline, and ask the agent to change how something is modeled. When you are satisfied, you publish the draft and Chargebee creates the records on your test site.

The agent is presented as two panels working together: the chat on the left, where you talk to the agent, and the workspace on the right, where the catalog it is building appears as editable tables and diagrams.

Note

  • Catalog Setup Assistant is available only on Product Catalog 2.0 test and additional sandbox sites. It is not available on live sites.
  • For external AI clients such as Cursor, Claude, ChatGPT, and other compatible tools, see Onboarding MCP Server.

Using Catalog Setup Assistant

To open the agent, click Catalog Setup Assistant in the navigation bar of your Chargebee site.

When the agent opens, type your input into the message box and send it. The agent takes it from there.

Providing your pricing

You can supply pricing in any of these ways, and you can combine them in a single conversation. You can also give multiple public pricing content pages (for example, a main pricing page plus a feature-comparison page) to get better results.

  • Pricing page URL: Paste one or more URLs into the chat. Chargebee reads the details available on your public pricing pages and models them in your catalog draft.
  • Document: Click Upload Files, drag a file onto the chat, or paste it into the message box. Use this for pricing decks, rate cards, spreadsheets, or screenshots of your pricing.
  • Written description: Type your pricing in plain language. Useful when your pricing is not published anywhere, or to correct and extend what the agent read from a page.

After you send your input, the agent shows progress as it extracts and models your pricing.

Answering the agent's questions

Where your pricing is genuinely ambiguous (an unclear billing frequency, a missing price, or conflicting tiers) the agent asks a focused question in a Needs your input panel. Each question comes with a recommended answer and a short reason for it, so you can accept the recommendation or choose something else. You can also type a free-text answer, or click Skip.

If you skip a question, the agent proceeds with its recommended default and records the decision under Assumptions and open items in the plan summary, so you can revisit it later.

What the agent builds

Catalog entities

The agent models your pricing across the following Product Catalog 2.0 entities. Each one appears as its own tab in the workspace.

  • Product Families
  • Plans
  • Addons
  • Charges
  • Pricing
  • Price Variants
  • Differential Prices
  • Attached Items
  • Currencies
  • Features
  • Metered Features
  • Entitlements
  • Credit Units
  • Grant Configurations

Reviewing and editing the plan

You can refine the draft in two ways, and you can move between them freely.

Editing the tables directly

Click any entity preview in the summary, or select its tab, to open the full table. Every table is editable:

  • Click a cell to edit it. Fields with fixed options, such as status or type, show a dropdown.
  • Click Expand row to open a row in a full editor drawer.
  • Click + Add row at the bottom of the table to add a record.
  • Click the delete icon to remove a row.

Edits save automatically to the draft. If a row has a problem, the row is flagged and the tab shows a red alert icon. Click Ask agent to fix to hand the problem back to the agent.

Asking the agent to make changes

For anything beyond a value edit, describe the change in the chat. For example, "Remove the Business plan", "Make the annual price 20% cheaper", or "Support should be an addon, not a charge". The agent applies the change, re-checks the plan, and confirms what it updated.

Note

Use the chat rather than the tables when you want to change how something is modeled, whether an item should be a plan, an addon, a charge, or a metered feature, or which pricing model it uses. The agent reconsiders the modeling decision properly and updates every dependent record, rather than leaving your catalog inconsistent.

You can also ask the agent general Chargebee questions at any point, such as how metered billing works or when to use a price variant. It answers from Chargebee's documentation.

Publishing to your site

When the plan looks right, click Publish to your Chargebee Site in the workspace header, or Publish to Chargebee on the plan card in the chat. You can also tell the agent to publish.

Chargebee creates the records on your test site and opens a Publish Results tab showing:

  • A summary with the number of rows published, the number of errors, and totals by entity.
  • A per-entity breakdown listing every row that failed, with the error message for each.
Publish Results tab showing successfully published catalog entities

Note

Publishing is create-only. Chargebee creates a record only if one with the same ID or name does not already exist on the site. Existing site records are never updated or deleted. You can, however, add new dependent records to something that already exists. For example, new item prices for an item that is already on your site.

Rows that publish successfully are locked in the workspace and can no longer be edited or deleted, and they are skipped if you publish again.

Fixing publish errors

If some rows fail, click Ask agent to fix on the affected entity, or Ask agent to fix all errors in the summary. The agent reviews each failure and handles it according to its cause:

  • Data problem (an invalid or missing value): Corrects the record itself and tells you what it changed.
  • Site setting not enabled (for example, metered billing is off): Explains which setting needs to be enabled and where to enable it. Support for changing site settings from the agent is coming soon. Until then, enable the required setting yourself, then ask the agent to publish again.
  • Duplicate ID or name: Renames the record to a unique ID, unless you specifically asked for that ID.

Once the errors are resolved, the agent asks for your confirmation before publishing again. Only the new and previously failed rows are re-submitted.

Managing sessions

Each pricing source you work on gets its own session, listed under SESSIONS in the left sidebar. Sessions are titled automatically based on what you are setting up, for example "Zapier pricing to Chargebee product catalog".

  • Click New to start a fresh session.
  • Click any session in the sidebar to resume it. Your conversation and your draft catalog are restored exactly as you left them.

Getting the best results

  • Share complete pricing content. You can give multiple public pricing pages (for example, pricing plus a feature-comparison page). A complete set of pages gives better results than several partial ones.
  • Include the feature-comparison table. Entitlements are derived from it. If the comparison lives on a separate page, mention it or link it.
  • Correct in the chat, not just the tables. If a plan should have been an addon, say so in the chat so the agent updates the pricing, entitlements, and attachments that depend on it.
  • Read the assumptions section. It lists everything that was approximated and everything that still needs your attention.

FAQ

Does the agent change anything on my site while we are talking?
No. Everything the agent builds stays in the draft workspace until you explicitly publish. Nothing reaches your site before that.

Can I use this on my live site?
No. Catalog Setup Assistant works only on test and additional sandbox sites. Build and validate your catalog there first.

What if my pricing is not published anywhere?
Describe it in the chat, or upload a document that lays it out. A written description works just as well as a URL.

Can I edit a record after it has been published?
Not through the agent. Published rows are locked in the workspace, and the agent cannot update existing site records. Edit them in the Chargebee product catalog directly.

What happens if I publish twice?
Rows that published successfully are skipped. Only new rows and rows that previously failed are submitted again.

Some rows failed because a setting is disabled. What should I do?
Enable the setting, then ask the agent to publish again. The failed rows are re-submitted; the successful ones are left alone. Support for changing site settings from the agent is coming soon.

Can I work on more than one pricing model?
Yes. Start a new session for each one. Sessions are independent and you can return to any of them from the sidebar.
