Understanding Environments

Introduction

Managing accounting and revenue recognition can be complex. To simplify your setup and testing, every RevRec Premium account comes with two distinct environments. After you log in to your RevRec Premium account, you will be provided with a Test site and a Production site.

These sites or environments allow you to configure, experiment, and manage data independently, ensuring that your business-critical processes remain accurate and unaffected during setup or testing. You can also invite users separately to each environment.

This document covers how you can use and manage your RevRec Premium environments.

Test Environment

The Test environment is your sandbox. You can use it to:

  • Experiment with transactions, configurations, and new features.

  • Validate accounting rules and setups before going live.

  • Explore how RevRec Premium works for your business workflows.

Actions performed here do not affect your actual invoices, credit notes, or payment data.

Production Environment

The Production environment is your live workspace where your real business data resides.

Once you’ve finalized your configurations in the Test environment, you can replicate them in Production. This is where you can:

  • Manage your live revenue recognition workflows.

  • Sync actual billing data.

  • Apply finalized configurations for your business.

Switching Between Environments

Follow the steps below to switch between the two RevRec Premium environments at any time:

  1. From any page in your RevRec Premium account, open the environment switcher in the top-left corner.

  2. Use the ellipsis icon on the switcher to:
    • Clear the selected environment.
    • Quickly access Settings.
    • Load sample data (available only in the Test environment).

Clearing an Environment

At any point in time, user with an Admin role can clear data from either the Test or Production environment if you need a clean slate to start fresh. Follow the steps below to clear an environment:

  1. Log in to your RevRec Premium account, and switch to the Test or Production environment that you want to clear.
  2. Click Settings > Configure RevRec Premium.

Note

  • You can clear the Production environment only in restatement mode, before the accounting period is set. Once an accounting period is closed, you cannot clear the environment.
  • All your sales orders, invoices, customers, and report-related data are cleared from the environment. However, the settings, accounting rules, and SSP library of the environment stay intact.
  • The data once cleared, cannot be retrieved. Proceed with caution.
