Introducing the Chargebee CLI

Pay Now

Pay Now lets you request immediate payment for all unpaid invoices.

Pay Now works through email. You send customers an email from Chargebee that contains a Pay Now button or link. The button or link takes the customer to Chargebee's Pay Now page, which lists the invoices due for payment.

You can send the email to an individual customer or to a segment of customers.

  • The Pay Now link is valid for five days after it is sent. To extend the validity, contact Chargebee Support. The validity period can be extended for up to a maximum of 60 days, based on your requirements. Extending the validity beyond 60 days is not recommended.
  • The Pay Now feature does not support offline payments.
  • The Pay Now page displays invoices only in the customer’s preferred currency. For example, if a customer’s preferred currency is AUD, invoices generated in USD are not shown on this page.

Request for payment via email

Pay Now email notifications let customers pay their unpaid invoices from the email almost instantly.

You can collect payment through Pay Now email notifications in two ways:

1. Send email to multiple customers

You can send email notifications to all your customers who have unpaid invoices. Follow these steps:

Step 1: Search for customers

After you log in to Chargebee, click Customers.

Use the Has unpaid invoices filter to narrow the list to customers who have unpaid invoices. The status of these invoices is either Payment due or Not paid.

Step 2: Configure and send email

Click Email Customers to start sending emails to the filtered set of customers who have unpaid invoices.

2. Send email to an individual customer

To ask an individual customer to pay their unpaid invoices, go to the customer details page and click Request Payment.

The Request Payment option appears on the customer details page only if the customer has unpaid invoices.

You can review the content before you send the email.

Accept payments

The button or link in your customer's email takes them to Chargebee's Pay Now page.

The Pay Now page lists the customer's unpaid invoices.

Your customers can pay all the listed invoices or select a few to pay.

Customers are then prompted to enter their payment details to pay immediately.

Customers can add a new payment method or continue with a saved one. If a customer pays with a new payment method, they can choose to save it for later use.

Customers can also save a newly added payment method as Primary or Backup.

  • The Pay Now page displays as a standalone page. Do not embed hosted page URLs in your own iframe elements.
  • The option to save a new payment method as primary or backup applies only when the end customer saves the payment method.
  • The option applies only to the second or a later payment method. Chargebee always saves the first payment method as the primary payment method.

3D Secure payments

When your customer selects the invoices to pay, they might be asked for verification. This happens if your business is based in Europe or has a significant customer base in the European Economic Area (EEA). In such cases, the customer might have to complete 3D Secure verification to complete the payment.

Add Pay Now in emails

You can add the Pay Now option to the following emails that Chargebee sends:

  • Payment failure notification
  • Dunning
  • Invoice receipt (if the invoice is already paid, the Pay Now button is not available)
  • Net D

If email notifications are enabled on your Chargebee site, a Pay Now button appears in your customer's email. Go to Settings > Configure Chargebee > Email notifications to add the Pay Now button to the following email notifications:

  • Payment terms (Net D)
  • Dunning management profiles and payment failures
  • Invoice receipt

When you edit any of these emails, you get the option to add the Pay Now button.

The button is included in the copy of the email your customers receive.
