How can I use a custom SMTP for our email notifications from Chargebee?

You can configure your own Gmail account or any third party SMTP service in Chargebee. You'll need the following information to configure SMTP in Chargebee.

  • SMTP host name
  • SMTP port number
  • SMTP username
  • SMTP password
  • Encryption Type (SSL or TLS) TLS 587 is the standard that is mostly used. However, certain legacy systems still accept SSL 465. Click here__, to know more about which port you should use to send email messages.

To configure, just go to Settings >> Customer-facing essentials >> Email notifications >> Change settings (under SMTP settings) >> Configure SMTP, fill in the necessary details and click Save. An example of a Gmail SMTP is below.

Host: smtp.gmail.com

Username:

Password:

Encryption Type: TLS

Port: 587

Note:

  • Gmail has a daily limit for sending emails. You can learn more about it here.
  • Know more about configuring SMTP here.

Additional Information: Please make sure you subscribe to an encrypted and secure SMTP service in order to avoid any problems. Chargebee is not responsible if the third-party SMTP service gets compromised.
