Email Mapping

Emails v2 are versatile, feature-rich, and have a sleeker UI. They also include additional mergevars you can use in email templates.

Chargebee seamlessly handles your move from Email v1 to v2 to ensure you don't lose email template data (unless you intentionally decline to move data). The migration also gets you up and running with the moved templates and data in Email v2.

You have two options when moving to Email v2:

  • Move with email data
  • Move without email data

This document serves as a central reference if you choose to move from Email v1 to v2, with or without data. It is recommended that you review the entire document to understand email template mapping between v1 and v2 and feature compatibility before sending emails through v2.

Information

Regardless of the approach you choose to move to v2, Email v1 data will be backed up and available under Settings > Import and Export for up to 14 days.

Data moved from Emails v1 to v2

  • Template
    • Email content
    • Email subject
    • From addresses
    • Checkboxes, if enabled, will also be enabled in v2
  • Header and Footer
  • Segment filters in use

Note

  • Feature-enabled emails, if available, are also moved. For example, Offline Dunning Reminder emails are only available if you have enabled Offline Dunning.
  • Emails that are disabled and not in use are also moved to v2.
  • Emails that are enabled and in use in v1 are also enabled in v2 by default after moving.

Email mapping between v1 and v2

This table contains the mapping between Emails v1 and v2, along with template-specific additional information.

Paid feature compatibility

Segmentation is a paid feature in Emails v2. If you were using it in Email v1, only the segment filters you used are moved seamlessly to the corresponding email in v2, and by default that filter is selected in the Send to list.

For example, if you had used Subscription Renewal First Reminder email in v1 with the segment filter bi-monthly or longer, while you move to Email v2, the same filter is mapped to the corresponding email in v2. The email in v2 now has segment filter bi-monthly or longer selected by default in the Send to list.

Reminder emails are also a paid feature in Emails v2. However, if you were using them in Email v1, they are seamlessly moved to Email v2 and you can edit and make changes to the template if necessary. If you try to create a new one, it won't be allowed.
