Fraud and Risk Management

Chargebee Pay provides secure transactions while offering you a seamless checkout experience. It combines dashboard tools with advanced fraud monitoring to safeguard your business. You’ll find dedicated features in the Chargebee Pay portal to help you manage risk and disputes effectively, such as:

  • Dispute Management: Monitor and respond to disputes quickly.
  • Dispute Tracking: Track disputes by status (open, won, lost, or responded).
  • Reporting and Exports: Generate dispute reports for reconciliation and analysis.

Disputes

The Disputes tab in the Chargebee Pay portal provides multiple statuses to help you manage disputes effectively:

  • Open: Active disputes that require your attention.
  • Inquiries: Requests from issuing banks for additional information before a chargeback decision.
  • All: A consolidated view of all disputes, regardless of status.
  • Won: Disputes where your evidence was accepted and funds were credited back.
  • Lost: Disputes where the decision was not in your favor.
  • Responded: Disputes where you have submitted evidence and are awaiting review.

The Disputes tab also allows you to filter by the following criteria:

  • Initiated Period: View disputes within a specific period when they were initiated.
  • Status: Filter by dispute stage (e.g., open, lost, won).
  • Type: Differentiate between inquiries, chargebacks, and notifications.
  • Payment method or amount: Focus on disputes by specific payment types or transaction values.

How does Chargebee Pay protect your transactions?

Every payment that flows through Chargebee Pay is evaluated through multiple layers of fraud checks before it is authorized. These checks are designed to block suspicious activity while letting genuine customers pay without friction.

Fraud checks in place:

The following fraud checks are in place to ensure suspicious activity is identified early and legitimate payments are processed smoothly, all without adding friction for your customers:

Identity and Payment Verification: Ensures card and account numbers are valid and shopper details are consistent.

Consistency Checks: Checks for mismatches between billing address, shopper information, issuing country, and IP address that may indicate risk.

Velocity Monitoring: Flags unusual activity, such as repeated use of the same card, IP, or email address within a short time.

High-Risk Screening: Blocks transactions from known fraudulent domains, risky geographies, or blocked card ranges.

Extra protection with 3D Secure (3DS)

Chargebee Pay supports 3D Secure (3DS) authentication, adding another layer of defense:

  • Customers may be asked to verify their identity with their issuing bank.
  • High-risk transactions are challenged, while low-risk transactions pass smoothly.
  • This process helps reduce fraud-related chargebacks and liability.

What happens behind the scenes

While you focus on your business, Chargebee Pay continuously monitors transactions to protect you from evolving fraud risks:

  • Automated Risk Scoring: Each transaction is assessed in real time based on signals like geography, device, and behavior.
  • Adaptive Rules Engine: Fraud rules are updated and optimized to match new patterns in fraudulent activity.
  • Chargeback Support: Fraud-related disputes are tracked, and you will receive timely notifications to act within required windows.

Balancing Security and Customer Experience

Our goal is to block fraud while keeping your checkout process frictionless. This means:

  • Blocking only high-risk payments.
  • Reviewing suspicious transactions intelligently.
  • Allowing genuine customers to pay without unnecessary hurdles.

With Chargebee Pay, you get both visibility and protection:

  • Visibility through your dashboard to track and manage disputes.
  • Protection through backend systems that continuously screen, score, and stop fraudulent activity.

This layered approach helps you minimize risk, reduce chargebacks, and maximize successful payments.
