Introducing the Chargebee CLI

Stripe

Stripe is one of the payment gateways you connect in Chargebee to collect recurring and one-time payments — cards, bank debits, wallets, and local methods. Stripe processes each charge; Chargebee handles subscriptions, invoicing, dunning, and reconciliation.

This overview is the starting point for the Stripe configuration in Chargebee: how you collect cards at checkout, which methods you can enable, and what the integration supports. Connect and configure Stripe in Stripe Prerequisites & Configuration. If you take cards in SCA markets, continue to Stripe 3DS Implementation.

Looking for RBI e-Mandate information? See RBI e-Mandate and Stripe RBI e-Mandate Impacts.

If you use Stripe.js as your checkout and need SCA under PSD2, see Stripe 3DS Implementation.

Stripe as a payment gateway in Chargebee

In Chargebee, Stripe is a payment gateway you connect at Settings > Configure Chargebee > Payment Gateways. After you connect your Stripe account, Chargebee routes charges to Stripe for processing.

Key differentiators

These are specific to connecting Stripe in Chargebee. Automated account updater, 3D Secure (3DS), and webhook sync also exist on other Chargebee gateways — see Capabilities at a glance.

  • Cards, bank debits, wallets, and local methods through one Stripe account
  • Stripe.js + Chargebee API for a custom checkout, in addition to hosted pages and Chargebee.js

Checkout integration options

Choose how you collect card details at checkout. Hosted pages and Chargebee.js keep card data off your servers (low PCI compliance effort, lower engineering effort). Stripe.js + Chargebee API is for a custom checkout with the same PCI profile. Sending raw card details to Chargebee is high PCI effort and is not recommended for 3D Secure.

Chargebee hosted pages + Stripe

Hosted checkout and portal tokenize card details and handle 3D Secure when required. Lowest engineering effort.

Chargebee.js + Stripe

Embed Chargebee.js so tokenization and 3D Secure run in your checkout.

Stripe.js + Chargebee API

Use Stripe.js to tokenize and run 3D Secure, then pass the token to Chargebee. Best for custom checkouts.

Supported countries and currencies

Check Stripe's global availability for the current list and status of supported merchant countries and regions. Stripe currently provides access in India and Indonesia by invite only.

After Stripe supports your account country or region, you can generally collect payments from customers worldwide. Availability remains subject to your Stripe account country, card network, transactional currency, regulations, sanctions, and the card issuer. See Stripe's supported card brands for network-specific restrictions.

Chargebee and Stripe have 100+ common currencies, but availability varies by Stripe account country and card network. Confirm each transactional currency in both sources:

Supported payment methods

After you connect Stripe, enable each method in Chargebee and in your Stripe account. Cards are configured on Prerequisites & Configuration. Every other method has its own setup guide. Availability still depends on your Stripe account country.

For India recurring-card rules, see Stripe RBI e-Mandate Impacts — it is not a payment method.
