Migration

Migrating to Chargebee means moving data from your existing billing system so you can manage and bill your subscriptions in Chargebee.

Migration consists of moving data such as customers, subscriptions, invoices, and mapping them to customers in Chargebee.

You might need migration if:

  • You are a new Chargebee user looking to move all your subscription data into Chargebee.
  • You are an existing Chargebee user switching to a different gateway vault.
  • You are a new Chargebee user changing your billing system and gateway vault.

Note:

To request migration, go to your Chargebee app and click Settings > Import and Export Data > Bring Data into Chargebee.

Our migration services help you transfer customers, subscriptions, credit notes, and current-term invoice data.

The migration process includes checks at each step to ensure an error-free transfer. You can choose a self-driven migration or have our migration team handle it for you.

Types of Migration

Migration is classified as Data Migration or Card Migration, depending on the type of data you want to move.

Data Migration

Data Migration involves moving your customers, subscriptions, credit notes, and invoices from your previous billing system to Chargebee. For details, see Migrating Data.

Card Migration

Card Migration maps card tokens from your new payment gateway to customers in Chargebee. For details, see Migrating Cards.

If you want to manage the entire migration yourself, see the section below.

Self Migration

You can migrate data and card tokens yourself using Chargebee's Bulk Operations. If you use the API, you can use our Import API feature.

However, we recommend that you request help from our Migration Team for a smoother experience.

To learn more about the steps involved, see Self Migration.

FAQ

1. How long does migration take?

Migration can be completed in 10 days once you provide the data in the required format.

2. Can I do Data Migration and Card Migration at the same time?

No, you cannot. You need to provide card tokens for mapping payment methods to customers during Data Migration. Therefore, if you are moving away from both your billing system and gateway vault, perform Card Migration first, then Data Migration.

3. What is a current-term invoice?

The invoice paid by the customer for the current term.
