Bank account blocked due to failed verification in Stripe

Problem Statement

This article helps you understand bank account blocked due to failed verification in stripe.

Solution

This error occurs when a bank account has previously failed verification in Stripe and is now blocked from being reused.

Error message

payment_method_bank_account_blocked: This bank account has failed verification in the past and can't be used. Contact us if you want to attempt to use these bank account credentials.

Cause

Stripe attempted to verify the provided bank account, but the verification failed. When this occurs, Stripe blocks further attempts to use the same bank account automatically.

Possible reasons

This can happen for several reasons, including but not limited to:

  • The bank account details entered were incorrect
  • The account is closed, frozen, or restricted
  • A previous verification or payment attempt on this account was returned or disputed

Resolution steps

Follow these steps to resolve the issue:

  1. Collect a new, valid bank account from the customer

  2. If reuse of the same account is necessary, contact Stripe Support to request a manual review and possible unblock. Supporting documentation from the bank may be required
