Defaults

This feature is currently a Private Beta release. Contact Chargebee Support to enable Defaults for your live and test sites.

Baseline Configuration of Payment Optimization Engine (Mandatory for all)

Defaults define the baseline configuration of your payment flow and is mandatory for everyone using the Payment Optimization Engine to set this up. Defaults constitute Payment method enablement and Default gateway selection.

Setting Defaults ensures that:

  • You choose the payment methods to offer your customers and their default order.
  • Every enabled payment method has a default payment gateway.
  • Transactions are never left unrouted to a payment gateway, even if no rules apply.

Configuring Baseline Configuration

Follow these steps to configure Defaults:

  1. Go to Settings > Configure Chargebee > Payment Gateways.
  2. Click Manage Settings under Payment Optimization.
  3. Navigate to Default Payment Method & Routing.

Step 1: Enable Payment Methods

Enable the toggle for the payment methods you want to offer, and show it to your customers in Checkout.

Step 2: Select Default Gateway

For each payment method enabled to be offered to your customers:

  • Select the payment gateway that will be used as the default option to be routed. This will also be used when no rules match in the routing rules section.

Note

  • It is mandatory to configure and review the Default Payment Method & Routing if you are going to use the Payment Optimization engine, as this decides the payment methods being offered and also the default gateways it is routed to.
  • Payment methods offered and their display order apply exclusively to Chargebee Checkout interfaces. For custom checkout implementations, ensure that you independently manage both payment method availability and their sequence of display.
  • When a new payment method is enabled at any gateway, it will be added to the list shown above. Make sure to review here to decide on the availability and default gateway to be used for routing.
