Razorpay

Razorpay is a payment gateway for accepting and disbursing payments online. With Razorpay in Chargebee, you can accept Cards, UPI mandates, and Netbanking e-mandates for Indian customers. Choose Domestic / Export or Import based on where your business is legally registered, connect Razorpay, then enable the payment methods you need.

Configuration journey

  1. Choose your Razorpay setup
  2. Connect — Domestic & Export or Import
  3. Enable payment methods
  4. Configure Cards or UPI & Netbanking

Which Razorpay setup do I need?

Choose based on where your business is legally registered — not where your customers are.

SetupWho it is forConfigure
Domestic / ExportBusinesses with a legal entity in India. Collect from customers in India (INR), and optionally from customers outside India when Export is enabled on the same Domestic Razorpay account.Domestic & Export
ImportBusinesses legally registered outside India that accept INR from Indian customers (SaaS / services only), with settlement to an overseas SWIFT-enabled bank account. Private Beta.Import

Warning

Razorpay Export and Razorpay Import operate on separate Razorpay merchant accounts. A single merchant account cannot be used for both.

Note

To collect non-INR payments through Chargebee with Razorpay (Export), enable international payments on Razorpay first. This is not enabled by default. See Razorpay: enable international debit and credit cards.

Supported payment methods

Enable these methods in Chargebee and in Razorpay after the gateway is connected:

  • Cards — one-time and recurring (e-mandate); card verification / 3DS is mandatory
  • UPI mandates and Netbanking e-mandates
  • Recurring / RBI rules — Razorpay RBI e-Mandate Impacts

Information

Netbanking e-mandate and UPI mandate in Chargebee are optimized for recurring payments. They differ from conventional Netbanking and UPI used for P2P or A2A transfers, and follow Razorpay and bank limitations.

Supported countries and currencies

Note

Chargebee does not maintain a closed country allowlist — final eligibility is subject to Razorpay compliance review.

Use cases

Collect recurring payments from customers in India (Domestic)

Your business is legally registered in India and you need Cards, UPI mandates, and/or Netbanking e-mandates for Indian customers paying in INR. Connect Razorpay Domestic, enable the methods on both sides, and route UPI and Netbanking e-mandates to Razorpay in Smart Routing.

Next: Configure Domestic & Export → Enable payment methods → Cards or UPI & Netbanking

Expand from India to customers outside India (Export-enabled Domestic)

Your India-registered business already collects Domestic INR and wants to present non-INR currencies to customers outside India while settlement remains INR. Enable international payments on the same Domestic Razorpay account, then use the Domestic & Export connection in Chargebee.

Next: Enable international payments on Razorpay → Configure Domestic & Export

Accept INR from Indian customers without an Indian entity (Import)

Your business is legally registered outside India, offers SaaS / services (not physical goods), and needs to collect INR from customers in India with settlement to an overseas SWIFT-enabled bank account. Request Razorpay Import (Private Beta) through Chargebee Support, complete Razorpay’s Import eligibility form, and enable methods after the gateway becomes Active.

Next: Configure Razorpay Import → Enable payment methods

Prerequisites

  • Have an active Razorpay account with access to test and live environments (or be ready to create one during connect).
  • Configure your Chargebee test and live sites separately. Test data is not available on the live site.
  • Enable the currencies you need on your Chargebee site before collecting payments.

Setup-specific prerequisites:

  • Domestic / Export — Prerequisites on Domestic & Export
  • Import — Prerequisites on Import (Private Beta; contact Chargebee Support to enable)

Configure Razorpay with Chargebee

Follow this order: choose a setup → connect on the matching page → return here to enable payment methods → open the method pages for checkout, testing, and limitations.

Choose how you will process payments

  1. Go to Settings → Configure Chargebee → Payment Gateways → Add Gateway.

  2. Select Razorpay.

Select Razorpay payment gateway in Chargebee
  3. In How will you process payments?, pick the option that matches where your business is legally registered:

    • Import — Business outside India → Customers in India. Continue on Razorpay Import.
  4. Click Continue, then complete connect / onboarding on that page.

Enable Razorpay payment methods in Chargebee
