One of my subscriptions says E-Mandate not set. I'm unable to receive recurring payments from such subscriptions
Problem Statement
Your subscription shows "E-Mandate Not Set" with the message: "Due to limitations with the gateway and the bank, your customer cannot currently set up a mandate for recurring payments in a non-INR currency. Collect payments manually by emailing them a 'Pay Now' link."
Related Scenarios
- Unable to set up e-mandate with a non-INR currency
Solution
This applies to subscriptions using RazorPay for recurring payments. RazorPay supports only INR-based recurring payments, which require an E-Mandate per RBI guidelines.
When subscriptions use a non-INR currency, RazorPay cannot create E-Mandates. Recurring payments are not supported, so the E-Mandate Not Set prompt appears.
How to collect payments
Since E-Mandates cannot be created for non-INR subscriptions, collect payments by sending a Pay Now link via email. You can send it manually or add it to dunning emails for automation. See How to add Pay Now link in emails.
Subscription changes via Portal
If Chargebee is integrated with RazorPay, customers cannot make these changes via the Chargebee portal:
- Upgrades/Downgrades
- Adding addons or coupons
- Changing quantity
- Other plan-related changes
Customers can only update:
- Billing address
- Shipping address
- Customer-level fields (if any)
