Why does bulk Collect Payment for invoices fail when I use the Plan contains only filter?
Problem Statement
You filtered invoices on the Invoices index page and ran Collect Payment for invoices as a bulk action. Some payments may process, then the job stops, or the bulk action shows as failed in Settings > Import & Export Data > Operation Log with the status Collect Payment for Invoices – Failed and little or no error detail. Collecting payment from a single invoice using Collect Now on the invoice details page still works.
Related Scenarios
The same Plan filter condition affects other invoice index bulk actions, including Mark as Void, Write off Invoices, and Close Pending Invoices.
Solution
This failure occurs when Chargebee replays the Plan filter with the contains only condition. It is not caused by a specific payment gateway or payment method. Separate payment failures for individual invoices in the same run, such as declined cards or gateway errors, can still occur and appear in the Operation Log.
- On the Invoices index page, open Filter list.
- Locate the Subscription (or subscription-related) section and the Plan filter you applied.
- Change the Plan condition from contains only to is or includes, and select the same plan or plans you need.
- Click Apply Filter and confirm the invoice list matches what you expect.
- Run Bulk Actions > Collect Payment for invoices again.
After the job completes, open Settings > Import & Export Data > Operation Log and confirm Collect Payment for Invoices shows a successful status.
For index bulk-action limits and how filters interact with bulk processing, see Invoices.
Important Notes
- Index bulk actions are separate from Settings > Import & Export Data CSV bulk operations. To collect payment with a CSV upload, use the Collect Payment for invoices operation under Bulk Operations.
- If you need to collect payment for more invoices than a single index bulk run allows, split the work across multiple filtered runs or use the CSV bulk operation path after exporting the invoice list.
