Solution

When creating subscriptions in Salesforce with a future start date, you may encounter an error when trying to add non-recurring addons. This occurs because invoices are only generated on the subscription start date, and non-recurring addons require an immediate invoice.

To work around this limitation, follow these steps:

  1. Create the Subscription without Addons: Initially create the subscription in Salesforce without adding any non-recurring addons.

    • This avoids the error related to invoice generation.
  2. Use Advance Invoicing (Optional): If your business process allows, enable advance invoicing in Chargebee to generate invoices before the subscription start date.

    • Navigate to Settings > Configure Chargebee > Billing Rules.
    • Enable Advance Invoicing and configure the number of days in advance you wish to invoice.
    • Note: This may not be suitable for all business models.
  3. Add Addons Post Activation: Once the subscription is activated (i.e., the start date is reached), manually add the non-recurring addons.

    • Go to the subscription in Chargebee.
    • Click Add Addons and select the desired non-recurring addons.
    • This ensures an invoice is generated immediately.
