Can I allow my customers to delete their personal data from the self-serve portal?

  • I cannot delete the personal data of my customers. What's causing this?

Problem Statement

In Chargebee, only you (as the admin or merchant) can control and configure settings for your customers' personal information. Customers cannot clear their personal data from the Self-serve portal.

You can clear customer data in three ways:

  • automatically clear data for customers who have canceled all their subscriptions
  • manually clear data for a specific customer from the customer details page
  • via API

Solution

Configuration steps

  1. Go to Settings > Configure Chargebee > Personal Data.
  1. Configure the settings for deleting customer data.

Important Notes

  • You cannot retrieve data after it is cleared.
  • You cannot clear personal data for customers whose subscriptions are in Active status. The Clear Personal Data option is only available when all associated subscriptions are in Canceled status.
