How do I handle tax exemptions in Anrok for Chargebee customers?
Problem Statement
This article explains why sales tax may still be charged for tax-exempt customers when using Anrok with Chargebee and how to configure exemptions in both systems.

Solution
Tax exemptions must be set in both Chargebee and Anrok. If a tax-exempt customer is still charged sales tax, the exemption certificate may be missing or misconfigured in Anrok.
Steps to Set It Up
1. Configure customer tax exemption in Chargebee
When adding a customer or later: Customer > Select the customer > Edit customer details > check Tax Exempt.
2. Configure customer tax exemption in Anrok
Upload the tax exemption certificate in Anrok so tax is not charged. If the customer already exists in Anrok, upload the certificate to that customer. If the customer does not exist in Anrok and you want exemption before the first invoice, create the customer in Anrok manually and use the MonetizeNow account id as the Customer ID in Anrok.
Important Notes
- Ensure the tax exemption certificate is valid and not expired.
- Changes in Anrok may take time to reflect in Chargebee depending on sync settings.
- Verify tax settings after making changes.
- For Anrok–Chargebee integration details, see the Anrok setup documentation.
