Supported Payment Methods
Chargebee Pay offers you the flexibility to enable one or more of our supported payment methods to best suit your business model, your country of incorporation, and your customer base. All supported payment methods allow Customer-Initiated Transactions (CIT) and Merchant-Initiated Transactions (MIT), making them suitable for subscription billing and recurring payments. Chargebee Pay currently supports the following payment methods:
- Cards
- ACH Direct Debit
- SEPA Direct Debit
- BACS Direct Debit
Cards
You can accept payments using major credit, debit, and prepaid cards. Domestic and international cards are supported (cross-border fees may apply). Learn how Chargebee works with your payment gateway and merchant account to process online payments. By default, all card payments are captured immediately after authorization. Chargebee Pay supports both 3DS and non-3DS transactions.
ACH Direct Debit
ACH (Automated Clearing House) is an electronic bank-to-bank transfer processed through the Automated Clearing House (ACH) Network. It moves money between bank accounts in the US and lets merchants collect funds directly from a customer’s checking or savings account, either for one-time or recurring transactions. Mandates are automatically created and managed during the initial authorization process.

- Processing currency: USD
- Settlement delay: 3–5 days; this may vary.

There is a per-transaction limit of USD 150,000 for ACH payments.
Account Validation with GIACT
When a customer initiates ACH direct debit payments, Chargebee Pay validates the customer’s bank account details in real time using GIACT’s gVERIFY, a real-time bank account verification service that checks the legitimacy of both consumer and business accounts using the routing and account numbers.
This reduces the likelihood of transaction reversals due to incorrect or closed bank account information. Chargebee Pay performs this validation during the initial transaction and when migrating ACH tokens from other gateways to Chargebee Pay.
Note
ACH chargebacks cannot be disputed by merchants.
SEPA Direct Debit
SEPA (Single Euro Payments Area) Direct Debit enables you to accept recurring payments from customers across the Eurozone. Chargebee manages SEPA mandates and ensures they remain linked to the customer’s subscription for Merchant Initiated Transactions (MIT) flows such as renewals.

BACS Direct Debit
BACS (Bankers’ Automated Clearing Services) Direct Debit is a widely used payment method in the United Kingdom. This payment method allows merchants to collect payments in GBP (British pounds) directly from UK bank accounts. A mandate is created when the customer authorizes the first payment and is reused for subsequent MIT flows.

- Settlement delay: 3–8 days; this may vary.
Supported Features:
- Refunds (multiple, partial, and full)

Transaction Flows
Chargebee supports both Customer-Initiated Transactions (CIT) and Merchant-Initiated Transactions (MIT) for all supported payment methods:
- CIT (Customer-Initiated Transaction): The customer is present and actively authenticates the payment (e.g., the first card payment with 3DS or setting up a direct debit mandate).
- MIT (Merchant-Initiated Transaction): Triggered automatically by Chargebee without customer interaction (e.g., subscription renewals, usage-based charges, retries). A valid CIT is always required to establish the mandate or authentication needed for subsequent MITs.
