Lisbon based Codacy saves hours of time in code reviews & code quality monitoring for global companies like Adobe, PayPal etc.
Founder duo Jaime and João noticed (from their previous experience) that in large corporates development cycles took a long time, especially with code reviews which involved senior developers. Longer development cycles would turn out to be expensive for the company and also affect the team's productivity.
So they started working on a solution to automate the code review process which paved way to what is now Codacy.
"There's a huge difference between code and good quality code. Every developer should strive to write code of good quality, as it creates an impact in the product and the company itself" says João, CTO of Codacy.
Codacy started with a very simple solution that they built on top of Stripe to manage their subscriptions. The solution was able to bill customers on a recurring basis by collecting payments. For operations such as invoices, reporting and taxes they resorted to third party services.
Although it worked just fine, whenever there was a small issue they had to keep going back to the code base to make fixes and this almost always ate into development time. And the code base began to grow more complex.
But being a lean team, the technical debt started affecting them. This was when João realised the need for a billing system which would handle everything for them.
It took Codacy all of 3 days to integrate into Chargebee and get things rolling. They picked the hosted pages method of integration. "We saved oodles of our development time by integration with a solution like Chargebee", says João.
Codacy has been able to iterate with their product much easier and faster than before. Their development team now focuses on making their product better, rather than reinventing the wheel.
