In the late 2000s, four friends found themselves frequently discussing starting a company.
What they wanted to build was a generational company - one built around a solid product to solve a specific business problem.
While working for respective global product and service companies, the entrepreneurship bug continued to grow, spurred on by Joel Spolsky’s ‘Joel on Software’ blog, which documented the journey of building a company in public. The main question being asked was: How can we bring curious minds together to solve a persistent SaaS problem and build a global, customer-driven organization?
Businesses were moving from transactional to recurring relationships as subscriptions were taking off. Yet, questions around the subscription experience including handling payments and billing logic continued to plague several founders’ forums. This was it - an opportunity to solve for subscription and recurring billing.
And so, in 2011, Krish, Rajaraman, KPS, and Thiyagu left their jobs, to build Chargebee from a single room in an apartment.
By 2013, Chargebee won its first customers, and there’s been no looking back since.
