Item Price Entitlement Overrides

Chargebee now supports entitlement overrides at the item price level within subscriptions, allowing merchants to configure custom entitlements for individual items (plans, addons, or charges) for a specific subscription. This provides greater flexibility for enterprise contract scenarios and enables more precise entitlement configuration at the item price level.

What Does It Do?

With item price entitlement overrides, merchants can:

  • Apply custom entitlement values to metered and non-metered features at the individual item price level.
  • Override the included usage of features for each subscription without affecting the entitlement value defined for the particular item price at product catalog.
  • Ensure accurate invoicing and entitlement recalculations when changes are made to the subscription.

Note:

Override values must be non-negative. Leaving the field blank will cause the item price to inherit the default value. Overrides apply only to the specific subscription they are set on without affecting the entitlement value defined for the particular item price at product catalog.

Interaction with Subscription-Level Overrides

Subscription-level overrides always take precedence over item-price level overrides while they are active. If a subscription-level override is later removed, the system reverts to the item price override value rather than falling back to the global default defined on the item price.

Example: Plan (A) has a default entitlement of 100 units. An item-price level override sets it to 150 units. Later, a subscription-level override changes it to 200 units. When the subscription-level override is removed, the entitlement reverts to the item-price level value of 150 units—not the original 100.

Scheduled Subscription Level Overrides

When both scheduled subscription-level and item-price level bespoke overrides exist, the subscription-level override takes precedence once it becomes active. If the subscription-level override is later removed, the system reverts to the most recent item-price level override rather than the default value.

Example: An item-price level override is set to 150 units on January 10. A scheduled subscription-level override of 200 units takes effect on February 1. On February 5, the item-price level override is updated to 180 units. If the subscription-level override is removed later, the entitlement reverts to the latest item-price level value of 180 units.

Adding Item Price Level Overrides

To add item price level overrides to a feature from the subscription screen, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Subscriptions list page.

  2. Select a subscription whose entitlements you want to override. Click the Edit Subscription.

  3. Click the three dots > Manage Entitlements.

  4. A side card opens, allowing you to modify the values for each line item.

  5. Additionally, you can also add a New Feature within the scope of this subscription

  6. Once you have made your changes, click Save Changes > Update to see overridden item price entitlements being displayed under the Entitlements section of the subscription.
