What is the difference between Tracking Pixels and Google Analytics in Chargebee?

Problem Statement

You want to understand what the difference between tracking pixels and google analytics in chargebee is.

Solution

Tracking Pixels:

Tracking Pixels are 1 x 1-pixel images which track the actions of your visitors on your website.

These tracking pixel images are generally included in the web page where you would like to track visitors. So, when a customer visits that particular page when the page loads up, a request is made to your server to download the pixel, and then you know you've got a visitor.

Conversion Tracking Pixels are those pixel images which are included in a page for tracking conversion. Since the conversion of a visitor is confirmed in the Chargebee Thank You Page, Conversion tracking pixels are typically included there to measure conversions.

Tracking Pixels let's you track which page the customer landed on your page from. For example, Facebook Pixel Tracking code.

Google Analytics:

Unlike Tracking Pixels which only records the number of visits, Google Analytics provides a better insight on the visitors by providing exact metrics (like conversions, traffic sources, exit percentages, etc.) for your website. It also gives you key insights into usage related metrics.

Chargebee integrates with Google Analytics using your GA account tracking ID. This integration helps you track page-views and information related to visitors traffic on Chargebee's hosted pages (checkout pages, thank you pages, customer portal.)

Google Analytics let's you set a funnel from one point to another point(ex: your homepage to the thankyou page after checkout) and track where the customer dropped off at the funnel.

Note:

Chargebee adds the GA tracking code only to the hosted pages. Ensure that you add the tracking ID in the other pages of your website that you would want to track.

Google Universal Analytics is getting deprecated and will stop processing data on July 1, 2023. Google has introduced a new analytics engine Google Analytics 4 (__GA4) that offers new and advanced features that can help you gain a deeper understanding of your website visitors' behavior, such as event tracking, machine learning, and cross-device tracking. With the new setup of GA4 and Chargebee-hosted pages it leverage the capabilities to analyze and optimize your website's performance, providing you with a competitive edge in the subscription business.  If your site is configured with Google Universal Analytics version, then you can refer to this link to migrate to Google Analytics 4.
If you're using Google Tag Manager to connect to your Google Analytics 4, we recommend that you use this separate integration, and never both.
