How do I disable all invoice emails in Chargebee?

    Problem statement

This article explains how to stop invoice-related emails from being sent to customers in Chargebee, including invoice receipts, dunning emails, and other notifications that may attach invoices.

    • You want to stop invoice receipt emails from being sent when invoices are generated.
    • You want to disable dunning emails for unpaid invoices.
    • You want to prevent invoices from being attached to other notification emails, such as subscription activation emails.

    Solution

Invoice-related emails in Chargebee can be triggered from multiple notification types. To fully stop these emails, you must disable invoice receipt notifications, review dunning email settings, and ensure that invoice attachments are unchecked in other email notifications.

    Steps to configure email notifications

    Disable invoice receipt emails

    1. Go to Settings > Configure Chargebee > Configure emails.
    2. Under Invoices, Credit Notes, and Payments, click Invoice receipt.
    3. Disable the notification using the toggle.

Invoice receipt emails are sent when invoices are generated in Paid, Not Paid, or Payment Due status.

If you do not want emails for invoices with Posted status and payment terms:

    • Disable Payment terms (Net D) notifications.

    Disable dunning emails (if applicable)

    1. Go to Settings > Configure Chargebee > Configure emails.
    2. Under Revenue Recovery, select Dunning for online payments or Dunning for offline payments.
    3. Disable the relevant dunning notifications.

This stops reminder emails from being sent for unpaid invoices.

Remove invoice attachments from other email notifications

Some notifications send invoices as attachments even if invoice receipt emails are disabled.

    1. Go to Settings > Configure Chargebee > Configure emails.
    2. Open the required notification (for example, Subscription activation).
    3. In Email options, clear the Attach invoice checkbox.
    4. Click Publish.
    5. Repeat these steps for all notifications where Attach invoice is enabled.

    Additional information

    • Disabling invoice receipt emails does not affect invoice generation.
    • Customers can still access invoices through the hosted invoice page or customer portal.
    • Review all active email notifications to ensure no invoice-related emails are sent unintentionally.
