Overview
Import is Razorpay’s solution for international (non-Indian) businesses to accept payments from Indian customers in INR, with settlement to an overseas bank account — without needing an Indian legal entity.
Chargebee supports Razorpay Import so you can:
- Accept card, UPI mandate, and Netbanking e-mandate payments (same methods as Domestic Razorpay in Chargebee) from Indian customers in INR.
- Meet Razorpay / RBI invoice requirements automatically after successful payments.

Warning
SaaS offering only. Chargebee’s Razorpay Import integration supports the SaaS Import path — not physical goods / Import (Goods).
Prerequisites
Before you configure Razorpay Import in Chargebee:
- Contact Chargebee Support to enable Import (Private Beta) on your site.
- Keep the business documents ready before you fill the onboarding form. See Documents required for Razorpay Import onboarding.
- Ensure you have a SWIFT-enabled overseas bank account for settlements (Razorpay requirement).
- Keep website policies current (Privacy, Pricing, About Us, Contact, Refund; Shipping if applicable) before Razorpay review.
- Enable INR on your Chargebee site.
- Plan to collect a complete shipping address from customers at checkout (required for Import payments).
Warning
Separate Razorpay account required. Domestic / Export and Import cannot share one Razorpay MID. Import-enabled Razorpay accounts are added as a new gateway entry in Chargebee.

Configure Razorpay Import in Chargebee
Information
This form-based onboarding is the current path to request Import activation. Chargebee will update the connect experience when additional onboarding options become available.
First choose Import in How will you process payments? on Razorpay.
Complete Razorpay’s import eligibility form
Chargebee shows Complete Razorpay's import eligibility form. For businesses registered outside India, Razorpay requires additional verification before enabling Import.
-
Click Continue to Razorpay's form.

-
You are redirected to a form hosted by Razorpay. The form asks whether you already have a Razorpay account.
-
Fill in and submit the form:
- If you already have a Razorpay account — select that option and provide the details for the Import Razorpay account you will use with Chargebee.
- If you do not have a Razorpay account — select that option and complete the form so Razorpay can create / set up your Import account.
-
As soon as you are redirected to the form, Chargebee adds a new Razorpay gateway account with onboarding status Onboarding Draft. At this point, no Merchant Account ID (MID) is assigned yet.
-
After you submit the form, the gateway status updates to Requested. The Razorpay team may reach out to continue onboarding and complete KYC / document verification for Import activation.
-
Once Razorpay completes verification, they provision a new MID with International Business enabled for Import and link it to Chargebee's Razorpay partner account. This grants Chargebee authorization to collect and process Import payments for your business.
-
When this linking is complete, the gateway status in Chargebee updates to Active and is ready to use.
Information
Status updates are not always instant. After you submit the form, expect Requested (or In Progress) until activation completes. Chargebee may also email you when the gateway is live.
Onboarding status in Chargebee
After you start Import, Chargebee shows one of these statuses:
| Status | What it means | What you should do |
|---|---|---|
| Requested | Onboarding was started / submitted. Waiting on Razorpay review. | No action required in Chargebee. Complete any follow-ups Razorpay sends by email. |
| In Progress | Razorpay is reviewing or processing your application. | Wait; respond if Razorpay asks for clarification. |
| Draft | Application is incomplete or saved as draft. | Finish and submit the onboarding form. |
| Failed | Onboarding did not succeed. | Contact Razorpay / Chargebee Support. Do not retry blindly without guidance. |
When Razorpay activates your Import account and it is linked for Chargebee, the gateway becomes Active.
Information
What’s next when the gateway is Active
- Enable payment methods in Chargebee (and confirm methods in Razorpay).
- Configure mandatory shipping and customer fields before go-live.
- Configure Razorpay Cards (and UPI / Netbanking if enabled for your Import account).
Payment methods activation
Turnaround times for enabling each payment method on Razorpay are owned by Razorpay — confirm timelines with them if needed. After the gateway is Active, also enable the methods you need in Chargebee on Enable payment methods.
Cards and UPI (one-time and recurring) are enabled by default on Razorpay Import. Netbanking e-mandate availability can vary for international merchants — confirm with Razorpay.
Shipping address (mandatory)
Razorpay enforces format and content rules for customer name and address fields (length, allowed characters, and related constraints). Chargebee validates required fields and applies safe limits; Razorpay may still reject values that do not meet their rules.
Configure shipping address collection in Chargebee: Shipping address and labels.
For the full field rules, see Razorpay: SaaS Import — request parameters.
Customer name and contact details
Ensure customer name, email, and phone are collected for Import checkouts. Razorpay applies additional rules to names (for example length and allowed characters). Prefer clear, real customer names; avoid placeholder or invalid values.
Note
Collecting card holder information such as card holder first name or last name is mandatory for Razorpay. Learn how to configure required fields in Hosted Pages field labels.
Details: Razorpay SaaS customer parameters.
Invoices after successful payments
Razorpay requires invoice documents for Import payments so settlements are not delayed. Per RBI / Razorpay Import guidelines, invoices must include required business and customer details.
What Chargebee does for you
- After a successful payment, Chargebee generates the related invoice and sends it to Razorpay automatically in the background.
- This does not block the payment. Customers complete checkout as usual.
- You do not need to upload invoices to Razorpay manually for these payments.
Warning
Chargebee sends invoices only for successful payments. Invoices are not sent for:
- Refunds
- Authorization-only / verification charges
- Zero-amount transactions
Official context: Razorpay Import — invoice collection.
Limitations
- A complete shipping address is required for Import payments.
- Netbanking e-mandates may have limited availability for international merchants — confirm with Razorpay.
For gateway error handling in Chargebee, see Payment errors.
