Get full visibility into payment gateway fees across multiple providers
Every payment gateway reports its fees differently, so comparing them side by side usually means exporting spreadsheets and lining up the numbers yourself. Chargebee Reveal, the payments intelligence layer for your stack, pulls fee data from all your processing accounts into one standard view. This way, you can see which processor is costing exactly how much, and in turn make data-backed decisions to optimize your stack.
Payment processing fees are hard to audit and compare across gateways
Every provider formats fees differently using varying statements, schedules, and labels. This makes side-by-side fee comparisons difficult. Most teams only audit their statements when a bill feels off, which means overcharges have likely been running quietly for months. Chargebee Reveal builds and updates this view automatically, helping you spot payment anomalies before they hurt your bottom line.
All your payment costs, finally in one place
Set up automatic cross-gateway payment fee tracking with Chargebee Reveal. Here's what shows up once it's connected:
Compare apples to apples with total fees divided by net volume, aligned by currency and timeframe.
Interchange fees, network costs, markups, 3D Secure charges, and card account updater fees are all itemized instead of getting lost behind the totals.
Export line-item records for month-end reconciliation, or bring exact cost breakdowns into your next rate review with your provider(s).
Short prep list
Fees and settlement data need connected gateways and a bit of time to populate before they're useful to look at.

The rates you negotiated with each processor. Helpful to have on hand when reviewing outliers (if any), so you can compare what Reveal shows.
Steps to set up gateway fees tracking
Connect your gateways, wait for the data to sync, and head over to the Fees section under the Settlements tab. This guide walks you through the entire dashboard, covering high-level provider overviews, hidden fixed costs, and raw transaction records. Helpful documentation is linked at every step.
Connect your gateway API keys
Head to Sources, hit Add source, and connect each provider you run with a read-only API key. Five clicks, no engineering, no write access to your accounts. The same connection feeds both your transaction data and your settlement and fee data.
- Add each gateway from Sources › Add source using read-only keys
- Connect guides: Stripe, Adyen, Braintree, PayPal, Cybersource, Shopify Payments
- Connect every provider, a fee comparison is only as complete as the providers in it
Give it a day to pull in your payment history
After connecting, Reveal ingests your transaction and settlement history, roughly the last six months. This is a one-time wait, and the data stays current after that. Around 24 hours is typical; larger datasets can take a little longer.
- Reveal ingests ~6 months of transaction and settlement history
- Typical wait: around 24 hours
- The Settlements tab starts showing data when it's ready
View blended processing rate by provider
Open Settlements › Fees. The Overview tab puts the blended rate (total fees divided by net volume) for each provider on the same horizontal axis, same time window, same settlement currency. One chart that answers "which of my providers is costing me the most, and by how much."
- All providers on the same horizontal axis, same period
- Filter by date range and settlement currency to scope the comparison
- A summary table below the chart adds total fees and net volume per provider
- Click any provider's tab to drill into its breakdown (covered in Step 4)
Get a payment gateway fee breakdown
Click any provider's tab and two donuts break the total down further. Fees split shows the composition by category: card transaction network costs, interchange, commission, markup, card account updater charges, network tokens, and 3D Secure (the cardholder authentication step at checkout). Outlier fees shows which card types are carrying a disproportionate share of the above-expected costs.
- Fees split: which categories your fees are going to, and in what proportion
- Outlier fees: which card types are behind the higher-than-expected transactions
- Together they tell you what to fix and where, by category and by card type
Check the itemized view of platform fees
Scroll down on the same provider page and you'll find Platform fees, the charges that accumulate outside of per-transaction pricing. Authorization optimization tools, 3D Secure lookups, other network costs, card account updater (which keeps stored card details fresh), network token fees, and processor SaaS-style subscriptions like growth-support tools all land here. These costs exist, they add up, and they rarely appear on the statement in a way that makes them easy to find.
- See every platform fee by name, with its volume for the period
- Covers authorization tooling, 3D Secure, network tokens, card account updater, and more
- Platform fees appear per provider, check each provider's tab for the full picture
Export line-level payment settlement records
Go to Settlements › Records for the individual transaction and settlement line items underneath everything above. Amount, fees charged, settlement date, and Settlement ID, filterable to a specific provider, date range, or individual settlement batch. Hit Export and Reveal generates a download ready for accounting, audit, or a conversation with your processor.
- Filter by provider, date range, settlement currency, or Settlement ID
- See amount, fees, settlement date, and Settlement ID per transaction
- Export the filtered set for month-end close or as evidence in a renegotiation
Unlock cross-gateway fee transparency with Chargebee Reveal
The Fees section moves from high-level to granular. Start at the Overview when you want the comparison; drill into a provider when you want to understand it. Go to Records when you need to prove something or export it.
