Subscription cancelled due to Tax calculation failure reason

Problem Statement

This article helps you understand subscription cancelled due to tax calculation failure reason.

Scope Merchants using Avalara/Taxjar face this error - tax_calculation_failed Error - tax_calculation_failed

Summary Sometimes one or a list of subscriptions get cancelled due to the reason Tax Calculation Failed when configured with Avalara or Taxjar. This is usually due to invalid addresses.

Solution

The reason why we have cancelled the subscription is that Taxjar/Avalara is sending a request to Chargebee stating that this subscription has the wrong address and we are unable to calculate taxes

This is expected behaviour. Chargebee tends to cancel the subscription for which Avalara/Taxjar was not able to calculate taxes based on the address provided by the merchant.

Now you can manually reactivate the subscription but if you do not change the address it will cancel again. The only way to find out the invalid address now is to a RUN CHECK for every address existing. That will show how many are invalid. Then for those, you need to go and change the address.

If you are still facing the issue then please raise a ticket with support team.
