Kakao Pay via Stripe

This feature is a Private Beta release. Contact Chargebee Support to enable Kakao Pay via Stripe for your live and test sites.

Introduction

Chargebee now supports Kakao Pay via the Stripe payment gateway, allowing South Korea-based customers to pay with this method.

When a customer chooses Kakao Pay:

  • They are redirected to a local processing partner (NICEPAY) for authentication and payment authorization.
  • After completing the authorization, Stripe redirects the customer back to your site.

This integration enhances checkout flexibility and improves conversion for businesses using the Chargebee platform.

Note

Customers must provide a billing address email during checkout to proceed with Kakao Pay.

Key Features

  • Supports both one-time (say, one-time charges) and recurring (subscriptions) payments.
  • Supports KRW (South Korean Won) currency.
  • Compatible with:
    • In-app Checkout
    • Full-page Checkout
    • Self-Serve Portal
    • Chargebee.js
    • APIs

Prerequisites

Before configuring Kakao Pay via Stripe in Chargebee:

  • Stripe is configured as a payment gateway in Chargebee.
  • Enable Kakao Pay in your Stripe account.

Configure Kakao Pay via Stripe in Chargebee

Follow these steps to enable Kakao Pay support in your Chargebee site:

  1. Log in to your Chargebee Billing site.
  2. Go to Settings > Configure Chargebee > Payment Gateway.
  3. Select Stripe from the list of configured gateways.
  4. On the Configure Stripe page, enable Kakao Pay for customers in South Korea.

Configuring Webhooks

To ensure your Chargebee–Stripe integration functions correctly, set up webhooks in Stripe.

Webhooks allow Chargebee to receive real-time notifications for key events, such as payment refunds.

For this integration to function correctly, the following event must be enabled:

  • charge.refund.updated

These events notify Chargebee about the creation, failure, or update of a refund transaction in Stripe, ensuring accurate reflection within your Chargebee account.
