Checkout Without Payment Details

Chargebee lets customers complete checkout without adding a payment method. Use this when there are no immediate charges and customers are not ready to provide payment details.

This feature allows you to:

  • Offer a free trial for your customers without collecting a payment method.
  • Have a freemium plan that does not collect payment information during checkout.
  • Offer a 100% discount or a coupon without prompting for a payment method.

Because no payment method is collected, the feature is protected by Google Invisible reCAPTCHA to stop spam checkouts by bots, so that every subscription created this way is authentic. If you use a custom domain, you must supply your own reCAPTCHA keys; see question 6 in the checkout FAQ.

To enable this feature:

  1. Go to Settings > Configure Chargebee > Checkout & Self-Serve Portal.
  2. Enable Allow customers to check out without payment details.
  3. Under Skip payment details collection during checkout, select the cases where this should apply.

This feature is applicable only for new subscriptions created through checkout.

If you use checkout only to collect payment information, this option has no effect. Payment information is still collected from all customers.

You can disable this setting later. After you disable it, new subscriptions created with a free plan, a trial, or a coupon require payment information during checkout.
